Vultures show off their gnarly genre flowing style with their debut EP 'Vultures I'. The heavy sounding four-piece came together as a way to release the pent-up energy that had built over the pandemic. Influenced by a mix of metal, hardcore and punk these guys are making heavy music that ranges from melodic to brutal. Opening the debut EP is the bands second single 'Unbecoming', this beast like track will have you headbanging in no time. The opener welcomes you into Vultures intense sound, with chugging riffs and growling vocals. While I didn't think 'Unbecoming' was a stand out track on the EP, I think it works well to open the five-track.

The next song 'Devastator' I was instantly a fan of, this one has much more force and from the second it begins the drums are going hard and fast. This was the song on the EP that made me go "these guys would be sick live", 'Devastator' just keeps giving and giving, never relenting, it's hard fast and full of intensity, this one has bite. My favourite track on 'Vultures I' is 'Collision Course' coming in with a bouncy metalcore riff and the powerful scream of the vocalist, it had me invested from the first second. I'd say this one is more modern metalcore feeling, it's catchy melody and high energy mixed with the most diverse vocal range we have heard yet, makes this one I want to keep going back to. I would say in this one it feels like they're channeling bands like Bullet For My Valentine but making it heavier. 'Merit' which was the bands first single release together heads in this insane direction further to the pits of hell. This one is crazy and definitely feels like it's drawing energy from the darker and heavier metal genre's, yet the chorus is this huge melodic piece that fully shows off the soaring soft vocals of the band. You can't be fooled by those softer moments though because 'Merit' will keep you heading into something heavier and heavier, from the driving guitars that seem to get faster and more intense with every riff change, to nearer the end when the demonic vocals rip through. Finally coming in with a big metalcore sound, the huge metal riff of 'Summit the Titan' drives the track. This one feels the most easy to listen to as everything sort of sticks around the melody giving you time to consume it fully. However, much like the opening track this one wasn't a stand-out for me. I liked it in the beginning but as the last of the five minutes went on I found myself starting to lose interest a little bit. Overall, for a debut EP 'Vultres I' is really good, within the five-tracks there's something for every heavy music lover and I personally have found three tracks that I really enjoyed and will be returning too. These guys are taking elements from all across the heavy genres and have made a sound that lies someone between melodic metalcore and brutal death metal, and I personally think it is a really enjoyable sound.
