Earlier this month Ample House released their stunning five-track EP 'Can't Believe I'm Here'. Having previously released singles 'Makeup' and Can't Believe I'm Here (Aero) from the project listeners kinda knew what to expect from this new piece but nothing compares to hearing all five tracks together. Almost like a story of ups and down throughout the EP there's clear highs and lows. Opening with 'Makeup' which was the first single off of the EP we're welcomed by something familiar. The strongly emotive piece sets the tone for 'Can't Believe I'm Here' and as the track builds with it's storytelling indie pop quality it also grows in emotion, this is especially true when we get a second vocalist coming in adding more to the story. Then moving into something brighter 'Can't Believe I'm Here (Aero)' still keeps the same thought provoking lyrical style but this ones lighter on your ears. Feeling almost like a coming of age track the vibrant guitar tones, strong vocal and upbeat nature make this feel like the "happy" song on the EP. 'Stars' which is up next draws us into something new again, the spacey feel complete with a distant echoey sound seems to describe a character that is searching for someone or something. It's easy to get lost in the simple melodies within this one and it sits as a nice piece in the middle of the EP. Then we move into 'All My Life' which unsurprisingly with it's rock edge is my favourite. With an intro that wouldn't be lost on a Foo Fighters track the indie rooted song would also be right at home on a modern radio station. This big song is powered by it's gentle riffs and large vocals that have a little rough edge. The simple lyrics of the chorus that just sing the title words "all my life" works as something that becomes catchy quickly, and the verses are addictive with their raw feel. Ending on a track called 'An Ending' feels more than appropriate and the gentle strums of the guitar are met with even softer vocals that sweep over the top. This one grows and grows swelling right to the end. A stunning piece to end what is overall a gorgeous EP. It may be a little different to the normal stuff I write about on here but I became a big fan of Ample House after seeing them live last year and I think their music needs to reach more new fans. 'Can't Believe I'm Here' is a great example of how these guys songs can pull you straight into their world and I really enjoyed how each song had a different vibe than the last, telling a complete story.
