with support from Foxhaunt, Soup and Vipera

Some nights you head out to a gig and you enjoy it but it's nothing special, this was definitely not one of those nights. This was one of those gigs where you know you're watching some of the next big names in the music scene, bands that feel almost too big for the little local stage they play on.

Running slightly late I made my way up the stairs to Garage's Attic venue to immediately be met with the loud in your face sounds of Limp Bizkits 'Break Stuff' being covered by opening act Vipera. Channeling the energy of bands like Sepultura there was a sort of aggression that ricocheted off the walls as the band pummeled their way through their set list. If you plan to see these guys live be prepared for a lot of headbanging and maybe even a mosh pit.

Soup were the second act of the night and honestly with a name like Soup I had no idea what to expect and was almost more expecting an act that's maybe a little on the sillier side but this was definitely not the case. Combining dark moodiness with high energy Scottish roughness and heavy moments throughout this was a band that were super interesting to watch.

The sort of unusual or maybe just unexpected sounds that this band played were perfectly complimented by their 90's ish aesthetic that borders somewhere between grunge and gothic. Since seeing them I have been checking out their music recorded but I will say it doesn't compare to seeing them live, their musical intricacies are made for a live setting and this is a band that it's hard to look away from.

Main support Foxhaunt were up next and after Soups performance the audience were more than ready to party and get in the pit. Foxhaunt are a band I've been a fan of for a while but I was excited for my first opportunity to see them live especially in such an intimate setting.

I will say the boys from Leeds put on one of the most explosive shows and if you've listened to thier music this would probably be unsurprising to you. Their high intensity alt rock sound that almost ventures into metalcore at times had the audience going wild and before long a massive pit formed in the middle of the room and drinks were flying.

Foxhaunt are definitely a band that are going to be continuing to make big waves in the alternative music world and everyone in the room that night can say they were the first people to see them at a Scottish show and I hope the lads return up this way soon.

Then after a little change over the lights had dimmed more and the candles that had sat on the stage throughout the night were lit and it was time for Since 2000 to completely smash their sold-out show at Garage Attic.

Sometimes you see bands that are putting big stage shows on small stages and Since 2000 are one hundred percent doing that. It's hard to imagine their massive sound contained in that small room and as they made their way through their set they proved not only do they sound amazing and look great but they know exactly how to keep and audience entertained.

Whether it was adding extra lights to the stage creating a bigger atmosphere, bringing out a bubble gun momentarily or the singer jumping in the pit there was literally never a dull moment at this show and you can tell Since 2000 really think everything through to create their perfect gig.

I actually didn't know these guys very well before having only heard a few recent singles so it was a nice surprise to see how versatile they actually are, delivering drum beats that sometimes feel like they shouldn't work but they do, vocal lines that could land anywhere from pop to metal and all met with an enthusiasm of a band that are hungry for more.

After the recent release of single 'Hellelujah' the audience were even treated to a live version of this that featured vocalist Laura Takala from Lo Rays who also features on the released single. As if the show hadn't felt special enough this really topped it off as the two vocalists wasted no time getting in each others faces and embracing the raw heaviness of the track, while the rest of the band threw everything they had left out onto the stage.

To sum up the sold-out show I would say that it was a special one I won't forget quickly. I truly believe we were watching some of the next great bands in alternative music and it wouldn't surprise me to see these guys all tackling big stages soon.
