Suffer @ Audio, Glasgow
with support from Witness, Datura and Claymore

Reaching the end of a tour across the UK, Suffer and friends hit Audio in Glasgow. The night was packed with heavy brutality, fun and a selection of bands that know how to capture an audience.

Kicking off the night as the crowd steadily rolled in was Claymore. Now this is a fairly new act only forming I believe this year (I could be wrong but they're definitely new) but in their short time together they have developed a sound and stage presence that is hard to match for a band so early on in their career. I last saw them when they perfomed at North Coast Fest earlier this year and it was like a completely different band seeing them at Audio, their mammoth sound makes it hard ot look away while they play making them the perfect act to get the crowd paying attention and warmed up for the rest of the gig. During their set Claymore even got the crowd involved when they threw out foam swords for people to fake fight with.

Next on the stage was an act that I've seen a few times now and am 100% a fan of. Datura have become well known in the hardcore and heavy scenes across the UK and beyond and rightfully so, with only two singles released but an impressive array of tracks to play live Datura much like Claymore are a band that are hard to look away from, from the second the first note hits you will most likely be hooked. This was the bands last performance for the year after what has been a busy one and they made it count flying through their crushing tracks with frontman Sean Black as always spending more time in the crowd than on stage. While it was a Sunday night and most people didn't want to get involved in the pit that formed the few people that did joined the frontman down the front giving all the energy they had. Everytime I see Datura, this perfomance at Audio included I am quickly reminded why these guys are probably going to become one of the most notable hardcore acts of the time.

Taking things away from the intensity of the first two acts for a little bit Witness were up next. These guys delivered more of a raw modern metal feel with soaring melodies, rough vocals and powerful guitars. Witness gave us a chance to breathe before the headliner, allowing the crowd a moment to stand in place and sing a long with the stunning tracks or sway beside their friends. I hadn't seen these guys before this gig and I can say that I was missing out, they have a strong stage presence that could easily fill a bigger stage and by the way most people seemed to know the words I could tell how popular they are already becoming in the local area. Witness and the crowd combined for what I would describe as a wholesome moment during the night and one that was met with torches in the air and beautiful yet heavy songs.

Then the moment we had all been waiting for came and headliners Suffer took to the stage. This is a band after listening to them for a while I was excited to see and honestly hearing them recorded doesn't even come close to seeing them in a live setting. Almost reminding me of acts like Lorna Shore but with their own twist on the genre the band deliver in your face crushing brutality from the thundering drums, to the weight of the guitars and the vocal snarls. Suffer are a force to be reckoned with whether giving intensity or moments that are more humorous. If you're a fan of the heavier stuff like me then do yourselves a favour and get to a Suffer show. It may have been the end of the tour which sometimes sees bands a little slower and more tired but if Suffer felt that way they definitely didn't show it, giving everything from the first note to the last.
