Twin Skeletons made their Glasgow debut last weekend and quickly proved to me why they're one of the most exciting up and coming bands in the alternative scene right now.
Opening the night was local act Brielle, now this is a band I've heard about loads and spent a decent amount of time streaming their songs online. As always with a band I've become a fan of from their recorded music I was excited to see how they would translate in a live setting and oh my God they did not disappoint. With a mix of softer and rougher edged alternative rock tracks that verge into a y2k kind of pop rock there's something very addictive about Brielle. During their performance it was obvious that people in the audience couldn't take their eyes away from the strong show that was happening in front of them. I think these guys were a great choice for an opener as they are quite similar to Twin Skeletons in a lot of ways but Brielle one hundred percent own their own personality. The vocalist of the act spent their time switching between playing the keys and singing some softer melodies and then commanding the stage moving around with just a mic during the rockier ones.
The second act was The Citrines who again have a similar sort of style but there's feels edgier and very fitting to something you'd find in the local Glasgow music scene. The young act definitely got the place warmed up for Twin Skeletons having the crowd join in with a couple of catchy tracks, including one that's become a favourite of mine 'Drink' the kind of unserious and fun track had everyone wanting to sing-a-long. The Citrines are definitely a band I can see developing their sound and turning into an act we will be seeing on many bills in the future so keep your eyes peeled for them.
While not the biggest crowd I have ever seen gathered in Garage Attic it did seem as though every person their was more than buzzing to see Twin Skeletons. The act who are still really early on in their career completely smashed their first ever Glasgow headline. Getting to be a part of seeing them for the first time up this way felt like something special as did the show the band put on. I've been covering releases for a while on here for Twin Skeletons so I was very aware of the kind of music they make going into this and I know how much I like it. Seeing them live is so different though, they have so much energy and their show literally feels electric and larger than life. I swear the audience spent the whole set bouncing. They even had a pit form periodically throughout which too be honest I didn't expect from a Twin Skeletons show but the energy was just that high that people had to let it out somehow. Towards the end a couple of the members even jumped down getting the crowd even more riled up. Alongside their own original releases the Bath based alt rock act even threw in a cover of Girls Alouds 'Sound of the Underground' which they dedicated to someone in the crowd. Speaking of fans as I see a lot with mainly bigger artists people in the queue outside were getting everyone to sign a Scottish flag which was handed to the band during their set, which to me proves that this is an act who if not already are going to gain a very loyal following. I'm very glad I got to see Twin Skeletons finally take on a Scottish stage and they absolutely nailed it! Roll on the next one.
