No Kings Allowed release a reimagined EP of some of their older tracks to reflect their current line-up and sound. Masked Dutch-Belgian six-piece No Kings Allowed have given new life to their earliest chapter with the 'Dethroned Reimagined' EP. When the act were joined by Yarno Lammens the clean vocals became a larger part of their arrangement and this EP brings some of their older songs into that new sound. Opening with title track 'Dethroned' listeners are immediately hit with a metalcore/deathcore onslaught. The piece races through the verses with strong drums, stunning metal guitars and a strong rough vocal. Then into the chorus it takes on more of a melodic personality. 'Dethroned' is one of my favourite tracks on the EP and definitely got me excited to hear the other three. Then moving into 'No Kings Allowed' the EP turns in more of an ethereal direction with a light haunting vocal and pretty guitar building into a track intro that's complete with stunning violins and choir vocals creating a dark and magical atmosphere. By the time the heavy notes roll in and the guitars take their place chugging alongside the track feels completely otherworldly. 'No Kings Allowed' clearly draws from the bands more cinematic side almost creating it's own world for you to sit in that is continued throughout the rest of the EP. 'My Queen' is another track completely sprinkled with tones of a dark fairytale but this time it crashes in heavier and the growls deliver an even more dangerous tone. This ones leans symphonically with it's massive sound. It's an emotional feeling song complete with big soaring guitars, huge vocal moments both soft and heavy and is another one that's easy to get lost in. Closing out the EP is probably my overall favourite piece 'A Bloodsoaked Crusade', this one feels bouncy and modern in comparison to what's come before. The vocals carry weight throughout the verse acting almost demonically commanding. Then the massive melodic chorus comes around after some gorgeous guitar moves and blast beats. This is in my opinion of the most powerful feeling track on the EP and is a great choice to close out the four song collection.
