VENUS GRRRLS @ Audio, Glasgow
with support from Uninvited
Appropriately taking place on Halloween week VENUS GRRRLS kicked off their Autumn tour with a show at Glasgows Audio, with support from local act Uninvited.
Bringing high energy that rapidly infected the packed out room openers Uninvited delivered bouncy pop-punk feeling tracks. This is an act that you can tell love having fun together on stage and the audience eagerly fed off of this energy jumping along with the upbeat tracks. This was my first time seeing the Glasgow locals live and if anything I'm disappointed I hadn't gone to see them before, the three-pieces tracks which are fun recorded gain even more of that energy in a live setting. Always moving around on stage the bands chemistry is clear throughout each and every song, as was the same chemistry they quickly gained with the crowd which were squashed right up to the stage edge. When I took my place towards the back of the crowd to watch Uninvited I noticed that even the people around me there were eagerly dancing along too.
With only two acts gracing Audio that night headliners VENUS GRRRLS were up next. The modern day Hex Girls witchy feeling act was supported by red lights and the candle props they had around the stage. Almost instantly I was drawn in by not only the dark imagery but the songs themselves, I have previously seen VENUS GRRRLS at Download Festival a couple of years ago but a festival stage doesn't do this act justice like their own show does. The setlist included songs from recently released EP 'To Die As Lovers May' and older favourites. Each and every song the band moved through had me unable to look away to say these guys sound great would be an understatement. From the power of the guitars and drums to the haunting vocals that showcased one of the most stunning vocal ranges I've seen in the alternative genre in a while.
Throughout the bands hour set they took time to interact with the crowd pointing out fan made t-shirts and things like that proving that this is a band who love their fans as much as us fans love them. Overall the bands set made for an enchanting evening that even after an hour I wasn't ready for it to end. I will definitely be catching these guys next time they're in the area and if you haven't had a chance to see the four-piece live before and are a fan of things that are a little on the spookier side I'd recommend getting along to one of their shows.
