Manchester alt-rock/nu-metal group The Fear have released their explosive debut EP 'Falling Forward'. Made up of a group of friends who have chased their musical dreams through various bands. The Fear have over ten years experience and that put together with their fresh take on their genre makes them a very exciting band. With several successful singles already out in the world alongside having played main support on tour for Alien Ant Farm and SNOT this new EP just finishes off what has been a very triumphant first year nicely.

"After a decade apart, The Fear felt like a long shot, but after one show in December 2023 sparked something unstoppable. Touring with Alien Ant Far and SNOT, and writing this EP - seven tracks of wall to wall bangers - has been a wild ride. This music is our best yet, and we owe it to ourselves and these songs to keep going. We're beyond stoked for what 2026 has in store." - (Mick Satiar, Vocals, The Fear)

From the intro I was excited to see what The Fear had to offer and I was immediately impressed as 'THE END IS THE START' comes in with a vicious bite. This is a modern alt rock track that's clearly heavily inspired by nu-metal or hard rock of the 2000's and from this first track I was a big fan. I like the way the guitars crash alongside the melodic vocals and it's all held together by electronics giving a sort of nostalgic element. 'WHITE NOISE' is a big favourite of mine on here, reminding me a little of early days Blind Channel (which I am a big fan) but with a bit more of a mature edge. Complete with riffs that are ready to punch you in the stomach, drums that are trying to outrace themselves and a fun vocal melody this is a great song and one that I added to my playlist with no hesitation.

I would say that 'CHEMICAL REACTION' feels a little sillier and light-hearted compared to other tracks on 'Falling Forward', and then 'SATELLITE' has a very similar big rock backed by electronics type sound, like 'WHITE NOISE'. One that in my opinion absolute goes off is 'MOTHS TO A FLAME' with is dirty riffs and explosive energy, there's a bit of everything here from darker tones to a massive chorus that you can sing-a-long with. Then lyrically it feels a little cheesy almost but in the most fun addictive way. This song definitely captures a 2000's rock energy and I'm a little obsessed with the way they combine that with the modern crushing guitars.

I can't not mention the cover of James' 'Sit Down', which as someone who didn't know this band I was totally unprepared for. The bright energy feels so out of place on this EP but it will 100% have you smiling. Channeling the popular tracks hyped up energy and combining that with a bit of rocky heaviness creates a track that almost has that pop-punk fun about it. Again I was not ready for this track but I was pleasantly surprised by The Fear's take on it. Just to wrap this up I overall loved this EP. The Fear clearly know how to write good, catchy rock songs and not just that but songs that are interesting, a little silly at times, a little dark but all round enjoyable to listen to. To be very honest there's not a single track on here I didn't like and I have to agree that it is packed with wall to wall bangers. If like me you'd not heard of this band before get to know them.
