UK alt metal group One Last Day have launched their hotly anticipated debut EP 'Eyes Like Glass//Thoughts Like Fuel'. One Last Day's brand new five-track EP comes after their 2025 return 'Still Breathing', which saw the band featured on Kerrang! Radio's Fresh Blood Show with Alex Baker.
"It covers the breadth of keeping the fire alive, self-reflection on your internalisations, sonderous realisations that people's experiences of you echo on regardless of your own journey, appreciation and recognition of the people who keep you safe and a good bit of dystopian realisation to cap it off." - (One Last Day)
Opening with the bands first track from this era 'Still Breathing', as listeners we are immediately thrown into a 2000's hard rock nostalgic sound. With almost a theatric like tinge especially in the vocal this is an interesting track that builds the atmosphere for the rest of the EP. 'Ash & Bone' comes in next carrying the same kind of dark theatric rock atmosphere. Much like the song before we are met with thunderous riffs and a soaring chorus. However, third track 'Echoes' moves in a slightly different direction. Opening with a catchy vocal melody before the riff comes in exploding the whole track into life. This one feels more vibrant and alive than the previous two tracks and is probably my overall favourite on the debut EP. There's a feeling of hope conveyed through the track yet it still packs that alt metal punch. Toning things down a bit 'Don't Go Under' is full of beautiful calmer guitars during the verses but still springs into life in the chorus with the heavier tones. This is definitely the nice and pretty song on the EP that allows you to take in the big lyrics and vocals, yet it still delivers big time on riffs when it needs to. Closing the EP is another very strong track 'Watch The World Decay' the piece which features William Alex Young (Defences), has a sort of powerful feeling, almost like a hero heading into battle but you know they're going to win. This is a track that perfectly builds an atmosphere while also being catchy enough that it could be enjoyed casually. I'm a massive fan of the addition of the heavier vocal on this one and I think having that added in really suits One Last Day's style and I'd love to see some more people feature on their tracks in the future. I think overall this debut EP is a great way to introduce anyone to the sounds of One Last Day, I personally hadn't listened to these guys before and I think I have a good feel for their sound now. Combining theatrical feeling melodies with sometimes dark atmosphere's and big hard-hitting guitars One Last Day have created something that knows what it is. From the first song you kind of know what you're gonna get the whole way through yet they still drop in a couple little surprises throughout without straying far from themselves.
