Texas metalcore group Interlinked have released their first full-length album 'RECEDE//COPE'. Forming back in 2020 the band from the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas have previously put out a handful of singles and an EP. Now the metalcore group have put out their debut album and in my opinion this is easily their most impressive piece of work to date. The eight tracks act as a concept piece about coming to grips with life in a post-pandemic world. The first four songs represent the main character pulling away from the outside world, while the latter four is about them dealing with their own personal strife. Coming straight in loud and with a hardcore edge, 'BURDENED' is a strong start combining metalcore groove in the guitars and vocals that effortlessly flow between the raw emotional melodic chorus and the spitting of lyrics in the verses. Immediately I knew this was going to be an album I was going to enjoy. The second track on the album is an easy favourite of mine 'COMPLICIT', much like it's predecessor it spits venom but I just feel like there's more in this one not just so in your face but more focused on being something that stands out, whether that's in the more interesting guitar melodies or the massive vocals. The first three songs on here really are stand-outs and 'NEKOMATA' proves that somehow Interlinked's sound keeps getting better and better with each one. Leaning more into breakdown core and modern sounds, this is a gorgeous track that just feels nasty in the best way. Vocally it's heavy but in the same way bands like Architects combine their growly edges with something massive. If I had to pick only one song to listen to off of 'RECEDE//COPE' 'NEKOMATA' would be it. Breaking up the two sides to the story is the little interlude type piece 'VIVARIUM//APERTURE', before 'RECEDE' comes in with a new emotive power. With more melodic guitars welcoming you into the new part of the story it feels more reflective than angry. It's clearly fueled by a new kind of emotion, almost an awakening and I personally love the way this one flows in it's lighter direction but with the same immense vocal. 'DISSOLVE' is one I previously reviewed when it came out as a single and I have to say I still love that intro riff. It's nice to hear the track in it's rightful place on the album and in it's own way I'd say it's one of the biggest songs on here. Now next track 'AVOIDANT' is an interesting one. Opening with an almost horror movie like intro, it's unsettling but once that guitar strums it's first note it's an instant reminder that you are listening to something heavy. I'm a big fan of the way this one, and to be fair a lot of songs on 'RECEDE//COPE' combine the typical modern metalcore guitar sounds but with the massive vocals you would have heard more from metal artists of the 2000's. Then closing the album is the thunderous track 'DETACHMENT'. This mammoth sized track seems to wrap up all elements of Interlinked's sound creating a dominant finishing line. If like me Interlinked weren't a band on your radar than you should put them there. 'RECEDE//COPE' is a great mix of heavy metalcore, hardcore and even rock that should be a staple in your playlists. Listening through the bands discography they have clearly grown so much in their years together and they're putting out tracks that deserve way more attention than they are getting. I'm going to say it, Interlinked may be one of your new favourite bands, so go get 'RECEDE//COPE' listened to.
