During their little UK tour rising pop-punk band Hometruths stopped off in Dundee to give Beat Generator a night packed with fun and unforgettable energy. The four-piece from North East England were joined by local punk act Dog Eared, emo/alt rockers High Voltage, and the always energetic alt group Stay For Tomorrow.

Welcoming in the hot and sweaty night was Dog Eared, the three-piece deliver a punk sound that packs a punch. Being the first band on a bill can always be a bit hit or miss but many people turned out for the opening act and gave them well-earned attention. I hadn't heard of these guys before so wasn't sure what to expect but they gave us a sort of typical yet enjoyable fast-paced punk show that felt like it fit that stage perfectly. There's nothing like a group musicians shouting their silly songs into dark lit basement looking rooms.

Second on the stage was an easy new favourite live act of mine, High Voltage.

With a very lovable emo alt rock persona, it's no wonder High Voltage pulled what was potentially the biggest crowd of the night. From basically the second they stepped on that stage there was groups of people right down the front and ready to dance. The Scottish four-piece know how to put on a show and keep people entertained, even showing off little unusual talents like the guitarists juggling abilities.

I think just from looking at this band complete with their bright coloured hair you know without even seeing them that they know how to have fun. The emo groups set at Beat Generator gave everyone in the room a chance to dance, maybe get a little emotional and even join in with lyrical moments, like when we were encouraged to shout along with the words "cut them off", during one of their songs.

Third act of the night was a band that always know how to entertain, Stay For Tomorrow.

Looking at the stage I don't think it's easy to figure out what you are going to get from Stay For Tomorrow, something emo? Hard Rock? Alternative? The answer is a larger than life theatrical alt rock performance which is completed by the insane presence that these guys have. In my opinion Stay For Tomorrow are one of the more exciting up and coming alt acts in Scotland at the minute and they made a great choice for Hometruths direct support.

Stay For Tomorrow are a band I have been aware of for a while but actually getting to see them live was an experience. The sort of theatrical edge to their music is more than doubled in a live setting giving them a powerful set that you can't look away from. Much like other bands on the bill they delivered bright tracks that you could dance to alongside more emotive moments like recent single 'Breathe'. A personal favourite live track for me I have to say is 'Villains', as it's energy just deserves to be experienced live.

After the first three bands the room felt hotter than ever before (who plays a gig in a heatwave?) but we all eagerly awaited Hometruths appearance.

In my opinion Hometruths don't feel like an up and coming act, their sound and presence makes them feel more like a band that have already made it. Forming back in 2018 the English group seem to have perfected their show giving us something that not only makes you want to sing and dance along but they sound great. I sometimes think it's rare especially in the up and coming scene to find bands that have perfected their live show to sound just as good as they are recorded but I think Hometruths are even better live. Anyone who was still managing to survive the heat stayed right down the front for the whole set showing Hometruths what us Scots have got. I truly think their big energy belongs on even bigger stages but this smaller show at Beat Generator gave old and new fans a chance to really experience this group before they blow up.

After a little bit without a gig this one was a fantastic step back into it. Every band on this bill gave lively performances that will make you want to see them again, I definitely do! If you haven't had a chance to catch headliners Hometruths live before I can't recommend doing that enough, and if you've never even heard of them, make sure to check out their music, I'd highly recommend their track 'Serotonin' as a place to start.
