FAEDA @ Audio, Glasgow

Sunday saw FAEDA take over Glasgows Audio, with support from Jason Allan and VIGILANTI.

Probably one of the more unusual line-ups I've seen in a while ranging from the rock swagger of VIGILANTI to the pop melodies of Jason Allan and then the explosive indie rock sounds of FAEDA this one was definitely different. Opening to what was a fairly quiet room VIGILANTI held the attention of everyone that had come down early. They didn't seem to let the early set stop them from delivering high-energy great sounding rock tracks. If you've listened to these guys recorded before you'll know that they sound great and this translates perfectly into a live setting. Bouncy riffs filled the room and a strong modern vocal took the impressive sounds to an even higher level. This is a band that over the past couple of years have been making their name known in the local scene and after seeing them live it's clear to me why, even playing to a crowd that clearly mostly didn't know who they were they still made an impression on the night. Then swerving in a completely different direction from the openers was second act Jason Allan. Now I've seen him quite a lot of times at this point but this was one of the few where he came alone without his band, being brutally honest on stage and explaining that he just couldn't afford them this time round. I think seeing him stand up there alone gave the pop-leaning artist a new sense of vulnerability, where I'm usually used to seeing him bounce around and be a bit crazy this show felt a little more stripped back with just him, his guitar and his computer. Now from seeing him a bit I've got to know and like a lot of his songs however he made the interesting choice to test out new songs live that will be on his new album M4M (music for millennials), which is coming out tomorrow (21st November). As a casual fan this meant I knew nothing, however there was a few people in the room who down the front were ready to sing-a-long with each new track that's been released. It was definitely a rare set but I enjoyed getting to listen to new tracks released and unreleased with my favourites being the fun opening track (that I can't remember the name of sorry!) and 'Burn My House Down Honey'. As it neared time for FAEDA to take the stage the once quiet room was suddenly packed from wall to wall as people eagerly awaited the Thurso lads arrival. Again another band I've been lucky to see more than a few times and I swear every time they somehow get better. With a new name and I think new lineup since last time I saw them FAEDA's first headline tour is proving what they are capable of. The buzz in the room was turned all the way up as the lights flashed and the group made their way through the high energy catchy set. I truly think it's impossible not to have fun when watching these guys perform and they just look like they belong on that stage delivering songs that make you want to dance. A stand-out moment for me was definitely new single 'South Paw' as well as some new songs they showed us that I think are going to gain them many many more fans. I've probably said this every time I've reviewed them but if you haven't been to a FAEDA show before get to one! Maybe have a couple drinks with your mates and enjoy the rock leaning indie sounds that will make you want to get down the front and boogie.
