Upstairs at Nice n Sleazy in Glasgow saw an explosion of raw talent, fun gimmicks and some emotional moments when The Scenes from Hell tour rolled in.

Limerence
Limerence

Kicking off the night local act Limerence took to the stage and people quickly made there way up from their seats in the bar to see what the opening act had to offer. Making their way through their set the group owned their place with powerful alt rock sounds. Complete with an edge of feminine rage and a powerful vocal to match Limerence proved why it's worth getting down early to catch the first act.

Second act of the night was one I was personally very excited to see and Book Lore did not disappoint. I had caught a couple of songs at the end of their set at a gig before this night so I deliberately made my way right to the front to experience the whole thing this time around. Looking up at the stage Book Lore came dressed from their recent quest, complete with a vocalist in tin foil hat and a Wizard at the side this band may look like they're just a silly gimmick but I can tell you they're much more than that. Too be honest the first time I heard of these guys I expected them to just be a joke band but they actually sound great. Verging on a sort of heavy alt and a sound that's completely their own you could have fun just listening to their music alone and their vibe definitely shows that they are having just as much fun in front of everyone.

Whether you caught the great tunes, the super fun Jimmy Eat World cover or one of the many blow up swords and horses thrown into the crowd I'm sure you would have had a great time.

The next act up and first of the double headline was Hell Hotel. Dressing the stage appropriately with old lamps and having the lights turned way down added to the overall atmosphere of the set. This duo really do invite you to take a stay in their hotel even if it is just for the length of a set. Having been together for a couple years now this act have already achieved some pretty great things and have plenty of songs released for you to check out, meaning I was far from the only person in the crowd who knew all the words. Combining their dark vibes with modern sounding emocore and high energy I found it impossible to look away as they tore through their raw set.

Hell Hotel are a band that have built more than a discography with relatable songs, there's a whole image, a whole world to get lost in when they take their place on a stage or in your ears at home.

The Throwaway Scene
The Throwaway Scene

Closing the night was The Throwaway Scene. This is an act that I honestly hadn't really listened to before and I am happy that my first experience with them was a live one. A frontman that barely stands still constantly moving from crowd to stage capturing everyone with every step and a modern alt sound that equally demands your full attention. Honestly my main thought throughout their set was just how great they sound live and within just a couple of songs I think they had not only won over me but everyone that was in Nice n Sleazy that night. This is an act who aren't afraid to get an audience involved in everything they do making it feel like we are all a apart of the show. The Throwaway Scene don't need anything more than their great songs to standout yet they still happily give a show that's bigger than a small stage event.
