Alternative newcomers paradise fell. released their debut mixtape 'Songs for ur Head', which gives listeners a glimpse into the world which they are creating. The London band have been steadily gaining fans from all over the world thanks to their relentless touring and social media presence. paradise fell.'s focus on connection in a world that's lacking that human touch most of the time has seen them build a loyal community. As part of the 'Songs for ur Head' release the band created an interactive zine which features fan submissions ranging from art, to poetry and journal entries. This project feels like more than just an artist releasing their songs and more like a world to escape too. The release itself focuses largely on mental health and the personal struggles of frontman Matty Bankhurst.

"Mental health is such a core theme in alternative music. I always knew I had something to say and maybe that could help people one day, but for the longest time felt it wasn't my place to say it. So in many ways this mixtape is about finding your voice. Many of us are singing and screaming our way through the noise in our heads, trying to make sense of it all. These songs are about looking inward, embracing the messy, imperfect parts of ourselves and discovering beauty in the chaos." - (paradise fell.)

Welcoming listeners into the world of paradise fell., the EP opens with the striking 'welcome to a world of beautiful chaos', the striking spoken word piece has a distant sort of feeling as if you're gripping on so tightly yet slowly your grip is failing. It immediately pulls you into this other world which is more than just an EP with some songs on it. Coming as an explosion of energetic alt rock, the first full track 'fall in // fall out' is a fierce modern take on the alt rock genre. Almost taking the energy of a metalcore band but keeping it catchy and vibrant paradise fell. from the get-go show listeners that they are something fresh and exciting. Then heading straight into a more emotionally powerful track 'NADIYA.' gives a small glimpse into a toxic situation, the feelings and hurt bleed through the verses while the chorus will have you wanting to sing "I swear Nadiya". This one is a favourite of mine, I could easily find myself headbanging to the heavier riffs while also crying to the moving lyrics. The '(interlude)' that comes next gives listeners a small break from the onslaught of emotion to sit back and take in the absolutely stunning piece. It may only be a little 50 second sound clip but I could easily sit with this one on repeat and just take a moment to decompress. At this sort of middle point in 'Songs for ur Head' it almost seems to act as a moment of change or rebirth, the music seems to build into some kind of new evolution. Keeping the same guitar from that interlude 'BEAUTIFUL LIFE.' grows with intensity before letting go into an uplifting positive piece. This is probably my overall favourite track on 'Songs for ur Head', there's an energy in this one that makes you want to come back and take it in again and again. Much like other tracks on the release 'BEAUTIFUL LIFE.' is packed with riffs, a chorus that's ridiculously catchy and deeply personal yet relatable lyrical meaning. The last song thunders in as the heaviest track on here, the guitars act as a siren, a warning of the ferocious sounds that you're about to be met with. I love this one lyrically, I think it's really cleverly done. I'm also a big fan of again how it has a massive chorus which feels like it's spitting venom at those who have wronged them. 'overdose.' is that moment of healing where you're no longer sad and you can finally hate the person that hurt you. It's a perfect end to the powerful story, even having a fast almost breakdown like moment before the last chorus rolls in and the tape clicks, signalling it's over. paradise fell. has created something bigger than a lot of releases I've heard recently, the way they create not only a powerful story but songs that are individually great and are only made better by being placed in their chronological order. I'm not surprised that this band are gaining the attention they are, within the six track release each one has the potential to be a hit. This is an exciting band who are giving everyone a fresh look at the new age of alternative music.
