Fog Bandits deliver raw unstoppable energy from start to finish on their debut EP 'This Coven'. From Glasgow, Scotland Fog Bandits are a band that dare to dream big with a sound that's even bigger. The four-piece's loud alternative personality has seen them play support for the likes of L.S Dunes, VUKOVI and The Pale White. Combining elements of punk, metal and 2000's alternative Fog Bandits have created their own unique blend of alternative music that's guaranteed to see them take on bigger stages in the future. Framed like a found footage tape Fog Bandits debut EP 'This Coven' is a short story about dreams, ambition and obstacles that get in the way. Following the opening click of the tape the infectious tune of title track 'This Coven' comes in. The second single to come from the EP has the bands signature crunchy sound and an anthemic chorus that'll make you want to stick around for the rest of the EP. Coming in straight after like an explosion of punk fueled rock is 'Hometime'. This one is already proving to be a favourite among listeners and I can see why, it's lighter melodies backed up by large guitars make it fit in really nicely with the alternative rock scene at the minute. Even with it's more common feeling Fog Bandits have still made a song that is so true to their sound in the way it's rougher, a little grungier, a little messier. This was one of the first songs the band worked on together but it feels so modern and right on 'This Coven'. 'Pretty Little Words' comes in next and this one is fun from beginning to end. Embracing their punkier side a little while also keeping it a little light-hearted, the track about trying to get people to show interest in your music is one that I need to see live. The chorus especially gives the chance for a sing-a-long which is always super fun. Next up on the EP is 'VILE' which was my favourite single to come from this release. I feel like this one encapsulates a lot of what Fog Bandits are, manic, messy and packed full of energy. Leaning more into their metal edged sound 'VILE' is a huge track that doesn't hold back from getting right in your face. The song that lyrically focuses on realising your heroes and idols aren't as perfect as you thought lets you feel the raw emotion come across, the aggression in the vocals and the speed of the guitars and drums feel like the band are just completely letting it all go. Now I thought going into 'This Coven' that 'VILE' was going to remain my favourite but oh my god I was wrong. Closer 'Get A Match' easily grabbed that title and I don't think I could hype this song up enough. The four-pieces most ambitious track to date pays off as it combines every element of their songwriting to make something that is massive. From the spooky little intro to the way the instruments burst into life I was excited the whole way through. With each turn this track gets bigger and better, the metal laced chorus is easily one of the biggest moments on 'This Coven' and it commands your full attention. 'Get A Match' is a melting pot of genres that is addictive and will have you wanting to stick Fog Bandits debut EP right back on loop. The Glasgow based four-piece have more than proved why they are a band that should be on everyone's radars after the release of 'This Coven'. The big sound they've created has just enough heaviness to appease any metal fan while also being melodic enough that a casual alt listener would also enjoy it. I don't think there's any other bands that sound quite like Fog Bandits at the moment and that to me is really exciting. This is only the beginning for them and I just know we're going to be hearing a lot of big things happening for them in the future.
