UK Gothic-Western rockers FangSlinger bring together five of their haunting tales in debut EP 'We Are the Night', which includes previously unheard track of the same name. Combining their four previous singles with a brand new track, the Outlaw vampires are inviting you into the first installment of their tale. Alongside the EP the British trio also released not only a standard CD but special editions, The FangSlinger, BloodRose and Hangman which all came with a gift, personalised perk and a handwritten letter, furthering the groups unique take on being in a Rock N Roll band. A theatrical opening, the new track 'We Are the Night' immediately transports listeners into a tale of bloodshed, sacrifice and lost souls. With the same classic rock tone that can be found throughout all FangSlinger tracks, 'We Are the Night' opens the EP with a ballad that wouldn't feel out of place on an 80's rock album yet it has FangSlingers signature Gothic western edge. The bands debut single 'The Lost Souls Saloon' comes in next and the ring of that guitar is just as addictive as it was on it's release day. A huge catchy chorus will have you wanting to sing-a-long before the EP jumps into something even more fun 'Bare Your Teeth'. The third track on 'We Are the Night' is probably the most country feeling and welcomes more vocal from BloodRose which allows for a fun sort of back and forth between BloodRose and FangSlinger. 'Bare Your Teeth' is a song that not only sinks it's claws (or teeth) into you but it's large more vibrant energy makes it one that needs to be heard live. Feeling again like a heavy nod to musicians of a generation before 'Blood Curse' reminds me a lot of artists like Bon Jovi that I grew up on. Again taking on more of a ballad style the country tinged track starts off small with pretty harmonies but before long explodes into life throwing out big guitars and even bigger rock vocals. Ending 'We Are the Night' with a party, fifth and final track 'Bloodsucker Blues' is fun and unlike everything else really doesn't take itself seriously. It keeps the same huge, catchy chorus vibe that is found throughout the whole EP but it's bouncy and fun melodies beg you to get up and join the vampires in a dance. Whether you're a fan of big rock tracks, a little bit of country or vampires you can find it all in 'We Are the Night'. FangSlinger do a great job of telling this story, a lot of times with bands like this it can feel like a bit of a gimmick and nothing that special but FangSlinger is 100% an exception. Each song on the EP shows how this trio are very capable of writing big catchy rock songs that could be enjoyed with or without knowing the theatrics behind them. I've been listening to them since the first release so I've heard most of the tracks on this debut EP plenty of times and I will continue to have them on repeat. The tones of nostalgia from the kind of bands my Mum listened to while I was growing up mixed with a fresh energy makes FangSlinger a band I will keep coming back to.
